Plantar Fasciitis

Plantar Fasciitis

Plantar aponeurositis, commonly referred to as **plantar fasciitis**, is a condition characterized by inflammation of the plantar fascia, a thick band of tissue that runs across the bottom of your foot and connects the heel bone to the toes. This condition is one of the most common causes of heel pain and typically presents as a sharp or stabbing pain, especially during the first steps in the morning or after long periods of inactivity.

Causes

- Overuse or excessive strain on the plantar fascia - Flat feet or high arches - Wearing shoes with poor arch support - Prolonged standing or walking - Tight calf muscles or Achilles tendon

Symptoms

- Pain in the bottom of the foot, near the heel - Pain that worsens with the first steps after waking up or resting - Tenderness or stiffness in the heel - Pain that decreases with movement but may return after prolonged activity

Treatment Options

– Rest and reducing activities that cause pain
– Ice application to reduce inflammation
– Stretching exercises for the Achilles tendon and plantar fascia
– Wearing supportive shoes or using custom orthotics

– Physical therapy to strengthen muscles around the foot and ankle
– Anti-inflammatory medications
– In severe cases, corticosteroid injections or surgery might be considered

Managing plantar fasciitis often requires a combination of treatments and preventive measures to reduce pain and prevent recurrence.
